    Climate Education and Action earns St Kizito High School a 2026 Green Difference Award in USA

    St Kizito High School Namugongo earned International  recognition from Project Green Schools for environmental leadership and sustainability in action.

    The recognition was at the Green Difference Awards ceremony at Columbia University in New York City on Friday, April 24, 2026.

    St Kizito High School Namugongo was recognized as a 2026 Green Difference Award winner, highlighting the schools’ outstanding environmental leadership demonstrated through Climate Education and Action.

    The Award was received by Dr Frederick Kakembo, one of the Directors of St Kizito Junior School Namugongo and St Kizito High School Namugongo.

    The event brought  together student innovators, educators, policymakers, and sustainability leaders around the world to celebrate real-world environmental solutions driven by youth.

    The Green Difference Awards recognize students and change makers making measurable impact in environmental education, clean energy, sustainable agriculture,water conservation, and environmental health.

    The program which attracted students and practitioners from the five continents, underscored the global reach of youth-led environmental action.

    “These students are not waiting for the future, they are actively building it. Through education, innovation, and leadership, they are driving real solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges ” said Robin Sidman, Founder and Executive Director of Project Green Schools.

    The Award was received by Dr Frederick Kakembo, one of the Directors of St Kizito Junior School Namugongo and St Kizito High School Namugongo.

    More than an awards ceremony, the event serve as a platform for collaboration and inspiration, bringing together voices across STEM, public health,energy, and environmental leadership.

    U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse said; “I’ve spent my years in Congress warning colleagues that it is time to wake up on climate. Project Green Schools help assure the next generation is awake and ready to take on this great and wondrous challenge. The road ahead is steep, and there will no doubt be more bumps ahead, but we will stay together in this fight for as long as it takes. Our planetneeds your advocacy.”

    Stakeholders and parents of St.Kizito have flooded social media with congratulations, celebrating not just the award but the ongoing legacy of positive change.

    Over the last 25 years since its establishment in 1998, St. Kizito High School Namugongo has maintained its position as a centre of academic excellence in Wakiso district, Kira Municipality, Central Uganda and the entire nation.

    While striving to make secondary education accessible to the community and the nation, St. Kizito High School Namugongo consistently works to provide a truly holistic well rounded equality education enabling the students to unleash their full potential and fit in the highly competitive education environment.

    The school is also open to learners of other religious convictions since they provide a non-discriminatory approach.

    It should be remembered that last year, at a ceremony held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and attended by 11 heads of state , ministers, and business leaders, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed recognized the 2025 winners of the Zayed Sustainability Prize , with Uganda proudly being represented by St Kizito High School Namugongo after it emerged among the three finalists in sub-Saharan Africa.

    The school was one of the three finalists in the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa in the Global High Schools Category from the 6000 schools that contested for the award worldwide.

    With a passion for knowledge, a commitment to excellence, and a spirit of innovation, St.Kizito empowers students to reach their full potential through their diverse culture and Practical Skills Development which enables them to easily adapt to the new curriculum.

    Over the years, they’ve evolved and grown, always dedicated to fostering academic excellence, character development, and a commitment to making a positive impact on our community.

    The school has  several Projects including: Making Reusable Sanitary Pads; Bakery and Cookery;Production of Toothpaste and Mouthwash;Composting and Fertilizer Production; Black Soldier Fly Rearing; Post-Harvest Preservation; Quality-Check of Eggs; Poultry Farming and Rabbit Rearing; Liquid Soap and Bar Soap Making; Candle Making with Mosquito Repellant Candles; Art and Craft; Fashion and Design.
