Crown Beverages Limited has today launched a new PET collection hub in Kyengera in partnership with Reclaim, marking the third collaboration between the two organisations to improve plastic waste collection and recycling in Uganda.

The Kyengera hub builds on the success of earlier PET collection centres established in Mbale and Hoima. Through these initiatives, the partnership has already contributed to the creation of more than 40 jobs while facilitating the purchase and recovery of over 860 tonnes of plastic waste, demonstrating the growing impact of structured recycling systems within local communities.

The new hub will serve as a key aggregation point for PET bottles collected from households, businesses and waste collectors in the greater Kyengera area. By strengthening collection infrastructure and working closely with community stakeholders, the project aims to reduce plastic pollution while supporting livelihoods within the recycling value chain.

While this marks CBL’s third PET collection hub established in partnership with Reclaim, Crown Beverages continues to expand its national recycling network under its Tweyambe project. We currently operate PET collection hubs in Jinja, Gulu, Kasese and Fort Portal, and with the launch in Kyengera, this becomes our seventh hub across the country.

Speaking at the launch, Pearl Kitimbo, Brand and Communications Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, highlighted the importance of partnerships in addressing plastic waste.

“Partnership is the only way we can work together to achieve our desired impact of having proper plastic collection and management. We churn out tonnes of plastic every day to our customers in a bid to address their demand for soda on the go. It is therefore also our mandate to support plastic waste management, and this is why we are opening this collection hub in Kyengera,” she said.

Zerubabel Junior Kwebiiha, CEO and Co-Founder of Reclaim, also emphasised the value of sustained collaboration in driving environmental impact.

“Our partnership with Crown Beverages Limited began in April 2025 with the launch of our first hub, and today we proudly celebrate the opening of our third under the Tweyambe program. This journey demonstrates the strength of collaboration removing tonnes of plastic from the environment, creating jobs and positively impacting lives. By working closely with local communities and councils, we are strengthening collection systems and building resilience. Yet while this milestone shows what partnerships can achieve, the road ahead is long and continued funding will be essential to scale our impact,” he said.

The Kyengera PET collection hub forms part of Crown Beverages’ broader sustainability agenda under the Tweyambe project to support the circular economy by ensuring that plastic packaging introduced into the market is effectively recovered and recycled. Through partnerships with organisations such as Reclaim, the company continues to expand plastic recovery networks that protect the environment while empowering communities.
