Halcyon High School is celebrating an outstanding academic milestone after students sponsored by the State Minister for Fisheries, Hellen Adoa, performed exceptionally well in the recently released Advanced Level examination results.

The school community has been filled with excitement following the remarkable performance, highlighted by a top score of 20 points from one of the beneficiaries of the minister’s sponsorship program.

The achievement has been hailed by school administrators, teachers, parents, and fellow students as a testimony to determination, mentorship, and the power of community support.

Among the outstanding performers is Seruga Davis, a student who offered Biology, Agriculture, and Geography (BAG) and attained the maximum score of 20 points. Overwhelmed with emotion, Davis expressed deep gratitude to Minister Adoa for stepping in during a difficult period in his academic journey.

“I am very excited. I don’t even know what to say or how to express myself,” Davis said while reflecting on his achievement. “I want to send my gratitude to Honorable Minister Hellen Adoa. I want to thank her so much. If it wasn’t for that lady, I would not be here at this time.”

According to Davis, financial challenges had once threatened his education and his ability to remain at school. His parents had struggled to keep him enrolled, making it difficult for him to concentrate on his studies and prepare adequately for his examinations.

“There was a time when I had failed financially to manage my stay at the school,” he explained. “But she helped my parents so that I could sit for my exams without any disturbance. For real, thank you so much, Honorable Mama. You are really a mother.”

The head teacher of Halcyon High School, Onyait Paul Mark, described the results as the best performance the institution has recorded in its history.

Speaking during celebrations at the school, the visibly excited head teacher praised both the students and staff for their commitment and hard work.

“There is a lot of excitement at Halcyon High School. I have even lost my voice,” Onyait said with a smile. “Last year these children told us they were going to write kilometers of answers in their examinations, and indeed they did.”

He noted that Davis delivered exactly what the school had hoped for, scoring the maximum 20 points.

“There is one student who wrote all the kilometers that were required, 20 kilometers, and he has 20 for 20 points. That is Seruga Davis,” Onyait said.

The head teacher also revealed that the school produced two students who scored 19 points, both of whom studied Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

He added that the overall trend of the results reflected a strong academic performance across multiple subject combinations.

“This performance this year has been the very best ever,” Onyait emphasized. “In 2024 we did not have a student getting 20 points, but this time God has made it possible. We thank the Lord so much because this is what we have been waiting for.”

The school registered a total of 211 candidates for the examinations, many of whom achieved impressive grades.

Another student, Elungat Richard, who studied Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics (BCM), scored 18 points and credited his success to God, his teachers, and the support system around him.

“I want to thank the Almighty God for giving me these points,” Richard said. “What you get is what God had already planned to give you. I also want to thank our teachers for their efforts to support us academically and financially, and for providing all the resources we needed.”

He further appreciated the guidance and trust from the school administration, as well as the prayers and encouragement from parents and friends throughout their academic journey.

Another candidate, Akiteng Rhoda, who studied History, Literature, and Geography (HLG), scored 17 points.

She described the achievement as a blessing, especially considering the challenge of balancing leadership responsibilities at school with academic work.

“I first want to thank God for the points that I got,” Akiteng said. “I never even expected to get 17 points. Being a leader at school while balancing academics is very hard, but I thank God for the results.”

She also praised the teachers for their dedication and commitment to ensuring students achieve their academic potential.

In response to the success story, Minister Hellen Adoa said she felt deeply humbled by the results and the appreciation expressed by the students.

“I am humbled by this encouraging message; it is my blessed day,” she said in a statement.

The minister recounted how the sponsorship began with a chance encounter with a boda boda rider in Kampala several years ago. After frequently hiring the rider for errands, the man eventually asked her to sponsor his daughter’s education.

“He later brought his son who was in A-Level, but he was unable to pay his fees,” she explained. “I decided to help him as well.”

Minister Adoa said she was delighted to learn that the same boy has now emerged as the top student at Halcyon High School with a perfect score of 20 points.

The achievement, she noted, highlights the transformative impact of supporting education and giving young people opportunities to succeed.
