Yesterday, 19th November 2025, the Managing Director of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), Lt Gen James Mugira, toured NEC Agro Farm in Kyankwanzi, a subsidiary of NEC, the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Gen Mugira was warmly received by Eng Simon Terwane, General Manager of NEC Agro SMC Ltd, and was impressed by the modern farming practices being implemented at the farm.
Gen Mugira commended the team for their innovation and use of professional technologies, stating that NEC Agro has played a crucial role in ensuring food and animal feed security in Uganda.
Gen Mugira expressed satisfaction that NEC, a commercial arm of MoDVA/UPDF, was for the first time feeding its army, and that the army leadership was happy with the quality of food stuff supplied to UPDF.
Gen Mugira officially commissioned the NEC Agro Administration Block and launched the 𝒾Form Farm Management Software, a digital tool designed to enhance planning, monitoring, and analysis of agricultural activities, increasing efficiency and profitability.
Gen Mugira also commissioned a scientific approach to farming, also named, farming with ekibaro. This data-driven method utilizes mechanized systems, high technology analytical tools, and climate tailored agronomic protocols that unlock the full potential of the farm.
Eng Simon Terwane thanked Gen Mugira for his visit, briefing him on the farm’s status, operations, and new innovations aimed at making NEC Agro Farm a centre of excellence and a model farm in Uganda.
Gen Mugira’s visit is part of his ongoing tour of NEC Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures, aimed at interacting with staff, reviewing progress, and driving growth.
