Ugandan steel company, Tembo Steels, a leader in sustainable and self-reliant manufacturing powerhouse supported the Iganga Local Government and the Office of the Environment Officer in the Walk for Water, environmental awareness, and climate change action during the Uganda Water and Environment Week(UWEWK) 2026.

UWEWK is a weeklong event that is organized annually by the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) through the Water Resources Institute (WRI). Officials from Tembo Steels said ; ‘’Building a stronger nation goes beyond steel, it’s about protecting the resources that sustain us’’.

The event was held at the Ministry from 23rd March to 27th March, 2026 and celebrated under the theme: “Water and Environment for an inclusive and prosperous Uganda”.

Tembo Steels officials added; ‘’Together, we walked for a cause, raised awareness, and reaffirmed our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. Because true strength lies not only in what we build, but in what we preserve’’.

What truly sets Tembo Steels apart is its commitment to environmentally conscious manufacturing. The company has achieved global recognition by producing low-carbon steel from cast iron, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 70% through advanced steel-making processes and continuous investment in research and development. Its innovations include the world’s thinnest hot-rolled steel sheets at 0.7mm and some of the lightest structural steel sections, produced using direct rolling techniques.

Beyond its industrial achievements, Tembo Steels has made a meaningful impact on community welfare and environmental sustainability. The company in the past initiated large-scale tree-planting drives in Iganga District, reinforcing its vision of harmonizing ecological conservation with industrial progress.

Hon. Sam Cheptoris represented the Guest of Honour the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Hon. Matia Kasaija and officially closed the 9th Uganda Water and Environment Week.
