By Pam Bayoch Gatluak The recent closure of the South Sudan Embassy in Nairobi is nothing short of a national embarrassment. It is disheartening to witness a sovereign nation, whose citizens invest millions of dollars across the world, fail to maintain something as fundamental as paying rent for its embassy. South Sudanese gov. Officials in the diaspora have made huge investments in Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. Yet, the same people and government that boast of such investments cannot sustain their own diplomatic missions. Two years ago, our embassy staff in Italy were thrown out by their landlord, forced…

There’s an old adage that says “one’s success is told by the successes of his predecessor.” Unfortunately, this seems far from the truth for Mr. Echodu, whose performance so far falls short of the vibrant legacy left by Captain Mike Mukula. In less than three months in office, Echodu appears overwhelmed by the big shoes he sought to fill — and at this rate, he risks being remembered as one of the least effective, if not most controversial, NRM Vice Chairpersons for Eastern Uganda. Reports indicate that Mr. Echodu has taken steps to usurp the leadership of the National NRM…

By Isaac Christopher Lubogo In an age when cities have grown louder but not wiser, richer but not fairer, the question before New York is not who can manage traffic lights or police budgets—it is who can reawaken civic reason in a world overdosing on populist noise. I rise, therefore, as a fellow Ugandan and a student of intellectual honesty, to argue that Zohran Kwame Mamdani is precisely the kind of mind this restless city now needs. Zohran is not merely the son of distinguished lineage; he is the living continuation of a cross-continental idea—that identity can be both…

He forgets that the wind that lifted him in 2021 has long been purchased by the state. The “tikinga” doctrine has decayed into a tragic mantra of misread momentum. Disclaimer: This is not be a lament, but a deeply philosophical autopsy of Uganda’s democracy under the shadow of “Protecting the Gains.” Prologue: A Nation Draped in One Slogan Every lamppost, billboard, and roadside frame now bears one face — Yoweri Kaguta…
