UBA Uganda, in partnership with My Tree Initiative, today reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability through a tree-planting exercise at Namalere Parents’ Nursery and Primary School in Kawanda- Wakiso District.

The initiative saw the planting of fruit trees culminating in the creation of a symbolic “UBA Fruit Tree” — a representation of growth, sustainability, and long-term community impact.

The UBA delegation was led by Hoziana Niyonsaba Semanda, Head Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Adolf Gumisiriza, Branch Manager UBA Makerere Branch, alongside representatives from My Tree Initiative. The team was warmly welcomed by the school’s Headmaster, Samuel Ssali, and his staff.

In his remarks, Mr. Ssali expressed heartfelt appreciation to UBA Uganda for selecting his school as a beneficiary of the initiative. He emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and encouraged students to take ownership of the trees planted, noting that they will one day enjoy the fruits of their efforts and other benefits that come along.

Speaking during the event, Ms. Hoziana commended the school administration for their cooperation and for providing a conducive environment for the activity. She highlighted the importance of instilling environmental responsibility among young learners and encouraged students to nurture these trees diligently. She further emphasized UBA’s sustainability message, urging students and staff to adopt the practice of planting at least three trees for every one tree cut down.

Mr. Gumisiriza reiterated the importance of consistent care in tree growth, noting that every tree planted today represents a future benefit for both the students and the wider community. He encouraged the pupils to remain committed to nurturing the planted trees to maturity.

Mr. Sharifu Semugera from My Tree Initiative conducted a practical demonstration for the students, guiding them through proper tree-planting techniques and educating them on the care and maintenance required to ensure healthy growth.

Each student actively participated in the exercise by planting a tree, fostering a sense of responsibility and personal connection to environmental conservation.

This initiative forms part of UBA Uganda’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, which focuses on sustainable development, community empowerment, and environmental preservation.
