Over 200 young girls and young mothers from the Busoga sub-region are set to benefit from upcoming vocational and employment opportunities following a new initiative by the Luyanzi Institute of Technology aimed at empowering vulnerable women through practical skills training.

The program, which will officially commence later this year, will equip participants with hands-on skills in catering, tailoring, computer studies and e-commerce enabling them to become economically independent and competitive in today’s global job market.

In addition, beneficiaries will receive Chinese language training, increasing their chances of securing employment opportunities in China, Africa and within international partnerships connected to the institute.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Director General of the Busoga Consortium, Mula Anthony, the institute’s Director, Mrs. Wang Sooma, emphasized the importance of discipline and determination among beneficiaries.

She noted that the opportunity will favor girls and young mothers who are focused, committed, and ready to transform their lives through education and skills acquisition.

“We desire to see young mothers become empowered, self-reliant, and purposeful. Those who are disciplined and know what they want will stand a great chance of benefiting from this opportunity,” Mrs. Sooma said.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to uplift livelihoods and revive the socio-economic status of the Busoga sub-region through education and skills development programs.

While speaking during the visit, Mula Anthony commended the institute for its continued partnership with Busoga, noting that this is not the first time young people from the region have benefited from scholarships and training opportunities at the institute’s campus in Bweyogerere.

He highlighted education and skills training as key drivers for sustainable development in Busoga and pledged to work with regional stakeholders to mobilize pottential beneficiries to embrace such transformative initiatives.

“These programs are meant to change lives and restore hope among our people. Our leaders will be rallied to support the programs to ensure success,” he said.

The project is expected to significantly boost the education sector while creating employment pathways for young mothers, reinforcing ongoing efforts by the Busoga Consortium to promote inclusive development and long-term economic transformation in the region.
