The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) today rolled out an extensive Ramadan charity drive across major universities in Kampala, delivering relief food packages and renewed hope to Muslim students observing the Holy Month.
The outreach, led by SPA and ONC Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, began at Masjid Aisha, in Kyambogo University, where she handed over assorted food items to support students during their fasting.
Addressing the students faithful, Hajjat emphasized faith, discipline, and academic focus.
“As you fast and pray, remain steadfast in your studies. I pray that Allah grants you peace, sincerity and success in the mission that brought you to university,” she told the students.
From Kyambogo, Hajjat and her team proceeded to Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where she received a rousing welcome from Muslim students who turned up in large numbers. Joining them in prayer, Hajjat reaffirmed her office’s commitment to youth empowerment.
“Our engagement with universities is deliberate. Young people must be supported spiritually and economically to thrive,” she noted.
The Ramadan drive extended to the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), where Hajjat delivered additional relief packages to the waiting students. In a surprise gesture, she pledged to cover tuition fees for Lumu Abdul Hakim, a second-year student, for the remainder of his academic programme.
“Education should never be cut short because of financial hardship. Where we can stand in the gap, we will,” she pledged.
The day’s activities climaxed with relief distribution at Kampala International University (KIU) and Kampala University “Original,” where students warmly welcomed the initiative.
At KIU, Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammed Ngoma commended Hajjat for what he described as a timely and compassionate intervention.
“This initiative strengthens our students during Ramadan and reflects meaningful partnership with the community,” Prof Ngoma said.
In her closing remarks, Hajjat pledged continued visits to institutions of higher learning to guide students on accessing government wealth creation programmes.
“Ramadan teaches compassion and responsibility. As ONC, we remain committed to ensuring that our young people are empowered both spiritually and economically,” she emphasized.
The university outreach forms part of ONC’s wider Ramadan Charity Drive aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and institutions across the country.
