Speaking during the event , Mbeiza said the occasion was organized in a bid to appreciate and recognize the workers for their hard work and achievements over the year as the engagement brought together employees from all departments to team build and strengthen relationships and employee motivation.

Workers and stakeholders commended the proprietors for establishing investments that have not only created Jobs, but boosted Uganda’s economy through taxes, corporate social responsibility among others opportunities created.

This comes at the when Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni early this week commissioned the Victoria Sugar Limited factory in Luwero District which is part of the group, praising its role in job creation, clean energy production, and Uganda’s industrial growth.

Despite making up less than one per cent of Uganda’s population, the Indian community contributes at least 65 per cent of the country’s income tax revenue, according to figures from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Uganda and India share a rich history of cooperation spanning trade, investment, development, and technology transfer. Bilateral trade between the two nations has now surpassed USD 1.2 billion, while the Indian government continues to support Uganda through development assistance and defense cooperation.

The bilateral relations between India and Uganda are characterised by historical cultural linkages, extensive economic and trade interests, and a convergence on major bilateral and international issues.

The Indian community in Uganda always celebrates all Indian festivals with equal pomp and fervor. In addition to festivals, the Indian community, every year, celebrates India Day, which is a cultural extravaganza.

The bilateral ties between the two countries have developed into a strong relationship that encompasses all industries, facilitating collaboration and building mutual understanding. These bilateral ties were further enhanced during the pandemic with India’s healthcare activities and Vaccine Maitri towards Uganda.

Taxes from these companies have played a crucial role in the development of Uganda, extending assistance in several domains like infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and education. The Indian companies have made significant contributions to the consolidation of these connections, since their influence is profoundly embedded in the social structure of the country.

Moreover, the investments made by these Indian proprietors especially in Buikwe have resulted in the generation of employment opportunities and the promotion of economic expansion within the area.
