Uganda CAA successfully hosted the second edition of the Aviation Week Basketball Tournament over the weekend as one of the activities to celebrate the annual International Aviation Week.
The UCAA Basketball team edged Riders Legacy in the finals held at the China Communications Construction Company Basketball Court in Entebbe in the event that also featured players from St. Mary’s Seminary – Ggaba, African Renewal University, Archers Legacy and Surveyors Institute, Entebbe, among others.
The Aviation Week is celebrated globally every first week of December, commemorates the signing of the Chicago Convention of 1944, a historic agreement that established ICAO and shaped modern international aviation. Since its first celebration in 1994, the week has become a tradition among ICAO member states, including Uganda.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Vianney Luggya, Uganda CAA’s Manager Public Affairs noted that the one day event was a good moment for the aviation fraternity to further strengthen bonds with the community in an informal setting away from the office.
“It brings our stakeholders together on the basketball court, united by teamwork and friendly competition.”
He added that Sports plays an important role in connecting communities, and many sports teams frequently use Entebbe International Airport as they compete locally, regionally, and internationally.
“As part of giving back during Aviation Week, UCAA supports a range of sporting initiatives, including the Seniors Golf Tournament (scheduled for December 6–7, 2025) and the just ended Rwabushenyi Memorial Chess Championship. A netball tournament also forms part of this year’s celebrations and is set for December 6, 2025 at the Fresh Handling play ground in Entebbe, and UCAA continues to annually field a football team in the corporate league,” he said Luggya.
