Yesterday, November 26th, 2025, Lt Gen James Mugira, the Managing Director of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), visited NEC Luwero Defence Industries, where he interacted with staff and commissioned several projects. The visit was part of Gen Mugira’s tour of NEC subsidiaries, aimed at engaging with staff, understanding their challenges, and sharing ideas.
Upon arrival, Gen Mugira was received by Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, the General Manager of Luwero Defence Industries Ltd and took him for a guided tour of the facility.
Gen Mugira expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the industry and commissioned various projects, including the Eng Gerald Lumu Mess, a 1km tarmac road with solar street lights, the National E-Waste Management Facility Headquarters, and the renovated and refurbished Carpentry Workshop, among others.
Gen Mugira highlighted NEC’s achievements, including its entry into the oil sector through a contract to provide oil pipeline services. He revealed that NEC Security Services Limited has already deployed security personnel to provide security for the pipeline construction.
Additionally, NEC Agro has made significant strides in food and feed security, cultivating 5 sq miles of maize in Kyankwanzi and 1 sq mile in Katuugo, and establishing a 6000-ton silo in Kigumba, Kiryandongo District.
Gen Mugira also informed staff that NEC was preparing to participate in the Standard Gauge Railway project, providing concrete sleepers, and was involved in various construction projects, including universities.
He commended NEC’s performance, citing the Auditor General’s report, which ranked NEC as one of the best-performing government parastatals.
Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi welcomed Gen Mugira and briefed him on Luwero Industries’ initiatives, including plans to utilize solar panels to produce 10 mega watts of power, improve water supply, and replace asbestos sheets on workshops.
He also highlighted efforts to redesign waste management treatment and expand quality control measures.
Gen Mugira commended the progress made and encouraged staff to build on the foundation established, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and innovation.
He also expressed satisfaction with the E-waste management efforts, noting that it was a national and global challenge.
