Golf lovers and enthusiasts from across the country will converge on the Kampala Golf Club this Saturday for the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri Tournament.

The annual one-day event is held in celebration of Kenya’s Independence Day, marked on December 12. This year, Kenya will commemorate its 61st Jamhuri (Independence) anniversary.

The tournament was officially launched last Thursday at Kampala Golf Club by Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Ambassador Joash Maangi, who noted that this year’s edition promises even more excitement than last year’s.

Equity Bank Uganda is among the key partners supporting the event to ensure its smooth running. Others are Uganda Baati, Kenya Ports Authority and Axian Telecom are the other partners.

Ambassador Maangi emphasized that the initiative serves not only as a sports gathering but also as a platform to strengthen bilateral relations and celebrate shared heritage. “Such ventures go a long way in strengthening ties in the region, integrating the region and making it stronger,” he said.

Equity Bank Uganda also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional cooperation. Speaking at the launch, Johnson Galabuzi, Segment Head Personal Banking, highlighted the Bank’s dedication to fostering cross-border partnerships. “Our support symbolizes how partnerships and friendship drive us forward in achieving our shared values through sports,” he noted.

Kampala Golf Club captain Charles Rukundo revealed that no professional golfers will participate in this year’s event, and therefore no cash prizes will be awarded. However, an array of assorted prizes and “state-of-the-art” giveaways will be up for grabs across different categories, including Ladies and Men in Groups A–C, as well as a guest player category.

This year’s tournament will be played under the Stableford format—a golf scoring system where points are awarded on each hole. The player with the highest total points at the end of the round emerges the winner. Unlike stroke play, which penalizes every shot, Stableford rewards strong performance on individual holes, allowing players to stay competitive even after a poor hole.

With excitement building and preparations complete, the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri promises a vibrant celebration of sport, culture, and regional unity.
