Church of Uganda has applauded its telecom partner, Paxtel, for reaffirming its commitment to community transformation, environmental conservation, and sustainable development during the 3rd Edition of the Elgon Half Marathon 2025, held in Mbale City.

‎Representing the Church of Uganda at the marathon was Rt. Rev. Michael Chorey, Bishop of Karamoja Diocese, who flagged off the 10KM and 5KM races and later awarded medals to the top athletes.

‎The marathon attracted hundreds of runners, organizations, and community groups united by the theme of promoting sports tourism, gender equality, and climate action.

‎Speaking after the event, Sadiiki Adams, the Communications Officer of the Church of Uganda, commended Paxtel for its continuous partnership with the Church, noting that the invitation to participate in the marathon demonstrates shared values and vision.

“The invitation by Paxtel Telecom to the Church of Uganda for this year’s Elgon Half Marathon reaffirms our shared commitment to community transformation and sustainable development,” said Adams.

‎Mr. Sadiiki said that through its subsidiary, Agrotel, Paxtel continues to champion environmental conservation and climate-smart innovations that align with our mission of caring for creation.

‎He added that Paxtel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives speak volumes about the company’s dedication to strengthening the Church’s ministry and supporting clergy welfare.

“Paxtel has contributed UGX 50 million to the Clergy Retirement Benefits Scheme, UGX 10 million to Karamoja Diocese, and supported several other Church projects across the country. This generosity reflects a deep and enduring partnership anchored in service to humanity,” Mr. Sadiiki noted.

‎Mr. Morgan Gyaviira, the Corporate Secretary of Paxtel Mobile, commended Church of Uganda for its role in advancing community transformation through faith-based action and social advocacy.

“Church of Uganda remains one of our most trusted and strategic partners in driving positive change at the grassroots. We are proud to walk alongside the Church in promoting environmental stewardship, clergy welfare, and youth empowerment. Together, we can build resilient and sustainable communities across Uganda.” Mr. Gyaviira said.

‎Church of Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to continue working closely with Paxtel and other partners to promote social transformation, environmental stewardship, and community resilience through faith-based advocacy and innovation.

‎On the sidelines of the marathon, the Church of Uganda delegation held a constructive meeting with World Champion Joshua Cheptegei, discussing opportunities for collaboration in youth mentorship, talent development, and community empowerment.

‎Both parties emphasized the importance of using sports as a tool to promote positive values, discipline, and social transformation.

‎Joshua Cheptegei commended the Church for its strong presence in community development, noting that faith-based institutions play a critical role in shaping character and inspiring the next generation of leaders and athletes.

‎The Elgon Half Marathon, now in its third edition, continues to serve as a platform for uniting stakeholders in addressing critical social issues such as gender-based violence, climate change, and poverty, while fostering unity and national pride through sports.
