Organised by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) in partnership with the Capital Markets Authority and the Uganda Securities Exchange, the awards aim to recognise organisations demonstrating excellence in financial reporting, governance, sustainability disclosure, and the effective use of technology to meet international standards.

This year the FiRe Awards were held under the theme “Driving Sustainability Reporting through Technology and Innovation”.

ICPAU President CPA Timothy Ediomu commended the Uganda Communications Commission and the Government of Uganda for advancing the country’s ICT transformation. He noted that following the 2024 adoption of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and the 2025 roadmap launch, voluntary adoption begins this year, ahead of mandatory enforcement for key entities by 2028.

Ediomu said, “The importance of adopting sustainability disclosure standards cannot be overlooked, and I urge organisations to embrace technology, innovation and early adoption to strengthen transparency, accountability and investor confidence as we prepare for the 2028 mandatory enactment.”

Chief Guest Hon. George William Nyombi, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, also emphasised the critical role of technology in enabling credible sustainability reporting and supported the call for early preparation.

Pearl Bank, Chief Financial Officer Peter Ssenyange welcomed the recognitions as affirmation of the bank’s reporting journey under its new brand.

“Winning both the Gold Award for Integrated Report of the Year and the Tier 1 Financial Services Award under the Pearl Bank identity is a profound milestone,” said Mr. Ssenyange.

Ssenyange mentioned that “Our integrated report presents a complete picture of financial performance, strategy, governance and sustainability impact, therefore, these accolades motivate us to continue leveraging technology and innovation to produce reports that meet international standards and serve all our stakeholders as we pursue our high-impact goals of driving sustainable financial inclusion and stimulating entrepreneurship and service.”

Throughout its transition from PostBank to Pearl Bank, the institution has prioritised continuity for customers while refreshing its identity, digital platforms and sustainability agenda. The FiRe Awards recognition confirms that the quality of its corporate reporting has kept pace with this transformation.

Pearl Bank continues to expand access to financial services through its branch network, agent banking channels, its Wendi mobile wallet and digital solutions, guided by its purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans by enable access to financial services in a sustainable way.

In the previous FiRe awards, the bank has received several accolades including Winner Banking Services General in 2025, 1st runner up Banking Services General, Bronze for Integrated Reporting 2023 and 2024 and for the individual recognition, Pearl Bank’s CFO Peter Ssenyange won the CFO of the Year 2025.
