MTN Uganda has launched MTN Starlink for Business, expanding the connectivity options available to businesses and institutions operating in remote, underserved and hard-to-reach locations across Uganda.

The launch was demonstrated at Libra International School in Zirobwe, where connectivity challenges had affected the school’s ability to fully integrate technology into teaching, research, administration and communication with parents. The deployment provides a practical example of how satellite connectivity can help organisations overcome infrastructure limitations and strengthen their day-to-day operations.

As an authorised reseller of Starlink products, MTN Uganda combines Starlink’s Low-Earth-Orbit satellite technology with local implementation, account management and customer support. The offering is designed for organisations that may be unable to access conventional connectivity services, including locations where mobile network coverage or fibre infrastructure is limited, difficult to deploy or unavailable.

Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, said the launch reflected the company’s commitment to making connectivity more accessible to businesses and institutions across the country.

“At MTN, we believe that where you are located should not determine how far you can go. Through our partnership with Starlink, we are combining Low-Earth-Orbit satellite technology with MTN’s local implementation, account management and customer support to serve enterprises in remote, underserved and hard-to-reach areas,” said Mulinge.

She added that the solution was intended to complement MTN’s existing connectivity services, rather than replace them, giving businesses more flexibility in how they connect their operations. Depending on their needs and location, organisations can use satellite connectivity as a primary connection, as a backup to existing services or where connectivity needs to be deployed quickly.

For Libra International School, the deployment addresses a challenge that had limited the use of digital tools in a school built around technology-enabled learning.

Mr Sekabembe William, Director of Libra International School, said the school had struggled to secure a suitable internet connection because of its location outside the main urban centres. Previous attempts to improve connectivity had not delivered the performance the school required, despite significant costs.

“Connectivity was a major challenge for us because we are an international school focused on using technology to improve learning. We tried different solutions, including boosters, but they were not efficient enough for our needs. The interventions were also expensive,” Sekabembe said.

He explained that the limitations affected classroom activities, online research, communication with parents and access to the school’s digital systems.

“Ever since we started the proof of concept with Starlink through MTN, it has really been a big milestone for us. The students can do their research much more easily, and communication with parents has improved because now it is just at the click of a button. Our examination and school management systems are also working more efficiently,” he said.

Sekabembe added that the connection was now available across the campus, including the computer rooms, allowing teachers and students to make better use of online learning resources. He described the network speed as “fantastic” and its reliability as “top of the range”, reflecting the school’s experience with the deployment.

The Libra International School example illustrates the potential value of satellite connectivity for organisations whose operations depend on consistent access to digital resources but are constrained by their location. Beyond education, MTN Starlink for Business can serve organisations in sectors such as healthcare, tourism, agriculture, mining, energy, construction and humanitarian operations, particularly where teams, facilities or projects are located beyond the reach of conventional connectivity infrastructure.

For these organisations, connectivity can support communication between remote teams, access to cloud-based systems, digital service delivery and business continuity. The appropriate solution will depend on each organisation’s location, operational requirements and connectivity needs.

The launch also supports MTN Uganda’s Ambition 2030 strategy, which focuses on leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress. By combining satellite technology with MTN’s local presence and enterprise capabilities, the company is broadening the options available to organisations seeking to participate more fully in the digital economy.

MTN Starlink for Business forms part of MTN Uganda’s wider connectivity offering, which includes mobile and fibre services, managed networks and other digital solutions. The company’s approach is to help businesses identify connectivity options suited to their operational environments, including locations where a single technology may not meet every requirement.

Businesses and institutions interested in MTN Starlink for Business can submit an enquiry through the MTN Starlink for Business enquiry form , call MTN on 100, or email customerservice.ug@mtn.com
