Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo Rose Epel has been sworn in as the woman member of Parliament for Katakwi District. Alupo came through unopposed after all her contestants withdrew from the race.
The contest had attracted four candidates at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary level before narrowing to two at the general election stage.
Shortly after her Swearing-in, today, the vice president pledeged to continue working very closely with NRM leadership and government to deliver services to the people of Katakwi and the country at large.”We shall continue prioritising service delivery, peace and security, education for all, health for all, infrastructure, and continue prioritising resources for wealth creation and job creation,” she said.
Alupo was accompanied by her family members, the NRM Chairman for Katakwi district John Robert Okiror, the Resident District Commissioner Stephen Ilemukori, District Chairman Geoffrey Omolo, district Councillors and supporters.
Alupo thanked the people of Katakwi for yet another mandate to serve them and further urged her electorate to take advantage of government livelihood programmes, including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, the Women Fund, the Youth fund,disability grants and elderly support programmes, saying they are designed to help to help citizens transition into the money economy.
The vice president later hosted her supporters to assumptuous luncheon at Speke Resort Munyonyo, which was graced by various religious leaders, the Chief Justice Flavian Zaija, NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Tadwong, Ambassadors of Foreign Missions, NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda Calvin Echodu, various ministers and members of Parliament both Outgoing and Incoming and officials from NRM Electoral Commission among other dignitaries.
The vice president reiterated her call for unity among leaders, service delivery, and fight against corruption.
Chief Justice Zaija congratulated VP Alupo upon her re-election and Swearing-in and thanked the people of Katakwi for identifying steadfast leaders who have served this country with integrity and humility. NRM Secretary General Tadwong thanked the people of Katakwi for supporting government by voting only NRM party flag bearers. EU Ambassador Jan Sadek applauded Alupo for all her successes, not only nationally but internationally. “Your Excellency, you have been so instrumental in shaping EU-Uganda partnerships and cordial relations,” Sadek said.
RDC Ilemukori congratulated President Museveni and VP Alupo upon their milestone, emphasising that for all the years he has been on earth, the RDC had never seen a government that cares for its people like NRM. Katakwi District Chairman Omolo thanked H.E President Museveni for the assignment he gave to the vice president and requested him to maintain her as vice president.
The Chairperson of the Visionary Women Kabakumba Matsiko applauded the vice president, who is also their Patron for carrying Uganda’s flag so high during her term as vice president.
“As a country, you have represented us so well both nationally and internationally. We are so proud of you, and We acknowledge your gentleness, love, and your steadfastness is superb,” Kabakumba said.
