The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) Board has successfully concluded a three-day oversight visit to key electricity generation and transmission facilities in the Eastern Region of Uganda. Conducted last week, the visit is part of ERA’s statutory mandate to oversee the Electricity Supply Industry, including monitoring the performance of licensed entities to ensure compliance with licence conditions and adherence to established standards for quality and reliability of power supply.

The Board delegation was led by Eng. Eriasi Kiyemba on behalf of the Board Chairperson, Eng. Grania Rosette Robomboras. The visit reflects the Board’s continued commitment to active oversight and informed decision-making within the sector.

During the visit, the Board inspected several key electricity installations, including:

    The inspections focused on:

    • Evaluating operational performance against regulatory standards
    • Reviewing maintenance and asset management practices
    • Assessing compliance with licence conditions
    • Examining contributions to host communities through corporate social responsibility initiatives
    • Identifying operational challenges affecting efficiency and reliability

The Board engaged facility operators and management teams on sector-specific challenges, including operational constraints and opportunities for improving performance. These engagements aimed at identifying practical and sustainable solutions to enhance efficiency, reliability, and service delivery across the electricity supply chain.

This oversight visit underscores ERA’s commitment to strengthening regulatory compliance, addressing reliability concerns, and promoting sustainable growth in the Electricity Sector. Through such initiatives, ERA continues to support the provision of reliable electricity services, which are critical for Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
