On November 25th, 2025, Lt Gen James Mugira, the Managing Director of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), visited the Grain Storage, Milling, and Supply plant in Kigumba, Kiryandongo District, where he interacted with NEC Agro staff.
This visit was part of his tour of Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures, aiming to meet staff and understand their operations.
Gen Mugira expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by NEC Agro, noting that he had been visiting various subsidiaries and was impressed by the team’s efforts.
He was pleased to see staff from different locations, including Kyankwanzi, Katugo, and Kigumba, gathered together and emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
During his visit, Gen Mugira highlighted the significance of the grain storage, Milling and Supply facility in Kigumba, strategically located to support the country’s food security efforts.
He commended NEC Agro for successfully completing post-trials and being ready to begin production. He also acknowledged the team’s hard work in establishing the facility, from conception to completion.
Gen Mugira emphasized the importance of quality and urged the staff to maintain the high standards of production, citing the positive feedback from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) on the quality of food supplied by NEC Agro.
He encouraged the staff to refocus on their vision and mission, exploring ways to expand their market reach beyond the UPDF to the wider community.
The MD also launched a food supply management system aimed at enhancing efficiency and productivity.
Eng Simon Terwane, General Manager of NEC Agro Ltd, welcomed Gen Mugira and presented an update on the company’s operations, highlighting their commitment to food security, climate change mitigation, and responsible solutions for the agricultural sector.
Eng Terwane outlined NEC Agro’s strategic business divisions, including agro machinery, crop production, value addition, and supply of foodstuffs to MoDVA. He noted that NEC Agro had been recognized as the best national agricultural enterprise by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries.
Overall, the visit was a success, with Gen Mugira expressing his appreciation for the team’s dedication and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.
