KCB Bank Uganda, in partnership with AFRIpads Uganda Ltd, successfully launched a donation drive, distributing reusable sanitary pads to schoolgirls at Jinja Progressive Secondary School, Nile Vocational Institute, Najja St. Mary’s High School, Kyaggwe, and Ursula Special School as part of a wider campaign to empower vulnerable girls across Uganda.

The initiative, which aims to support the education and well-being of young women, is designed to tackle period poverty and promote sustainable menstrual hygiene management. This joint effort reinforces KCB Bank’s commitment to keeping girls in school by ensuring they have access to essential menstrual products, which significantly reduces period-related absenteeism.

The donation at Ursula Special School was specifically tailored to meet the hygiene needs of children with special needs, reflecting the bank’s belief that menstrual dignity is a fundamental right for every girl, regardless of her circumstances.

While speaking at one of the schools, Kibuuka Stephen, the Business Development Manager KCB Foundation, highlighted the bank’s dedication to community welfare. “At KCB Bank, as part of our bank promise, For People For Better, we believe that investing in a girl’s education and dignity has a profound impact on her life and the development of her community,” said Kibuuka. “Period poverty is a significant barrier to education for many girls in Uganda. By partnering with AFRIpads, an organisation that produces high-quality, sustainable solutions right here in Uganda, we are providing a practical tool to manage menstruation while directly investing in a brighter, more fulfilling future for these young women. This donation speaks to our pledge to break down the barriers that keep girls from achieving their full potential.”

AFRIpads Uganda Ltd. also emphasised the importance of access to sustainable menstrual products for the dignity and health of girls. “The reusable pad you have received is designed with durability and comfort in mind, ensuring that girls can manage their periods with dignity and confidence month after month for several years,” stated Irene Kemigisa, a trainer with AFRIpads Uganda Ltd. “Our collaboration with KCB Bank is vital in scaling up this impact. When girls have reliable access to hygienic products, their concentration and participation in school significantly improve. We are proud to be part of an effort that champions health, dignity, and educational equality.”

The initiative also included an educational session on menstrual hygiene management, ensuring the girls are equipped with the knowledge to use and care for the reusable pads properly.

KCB Bank Uganda is a commercial bank in Uganda. It is licensed by the Bank of Uganda, the central bank and national banking regulator. The Bank has 15 branches spread across the country,15 ATMs, 385 Bank Agents, and 295 Merchant outlets. Its mission is “To drive efficiency whilst growing market share to be the preferred financial solutions provider in Africa with global reach.”
