For the past 27 years, every month of November, top golfers around the country gather in Masindi for the annual Kinyara Golf Open.
This year will be no different as the Kinyara Golf open will be taking place from the 13th to 15th November in Masindi. The tournament was officially launched last Thursday at Kampala Golf Club with various partners confirming their support.
“Bigger, better and more enterprising”, is how Oweek. Francis Mugerwa, the public relations officer of Kinyara Sugar Limited, the title sponsors of the tournament describes how the 2025 will be.
And indeed, there is no doubt that it will be bigger and better showing by the turn up of the partners who have shown support to the tournament.
Among the partners, is ICEA LION who have contributed Shs 30m towards the organization and smooth running of the tournament. Speaking at the press launch, Moses Mugalu Communications and Marketing lead ICEA LION says, “This is not just about the pride of being part of such a historical event in Ugandan sport but golf mirrors what ICEA LION stands for; ‘focus, discipline and the spirit of partnerships. It is also in line with our sustainability goals of promoting a healthy living.”
Mugerwa confirmed that over 100 participants have registered and registration is still on-going. This time round the professional’s category will play a Shs 10m prize while amateurs will play for Shs 4m and the Gross Ladies category will be for Shs 3m.
The professionals who start on the 13th will play 54 holes starting with 36 and then followed by 18 holes on the 14th. It will be the same for the Elite Amateurs
While Group A will play six to 12 holes and Group B will play 13 to 18 holes. For the seniors-above 55 years of age.
The organizers have lined up special prizes that include 40-inch plasma screens and trophies both men and women.
Moses Enzama the Captain of Kinyara Golf Club is elated and can’t wait, “I have a team of hungry players yearning for glory. We have been training and the time has come to make our mark.”
With excitement in high gear, fairways fine tuned and the green having got a facelift, notables players such as; David Kamulindwa, Vincent Byamukama, Marvin Kibirige, Irene Nakalembe, Herman Deco Mutebi, Rodel Tadeo Gaita, Abraham Ainamani, James Koto, Phillip Kasozi, Deo Akope, Herman Mutaawe, the Bagalana brothers, Henry Lujja, Opio Onito, Samuel Kato and Emmanuel Ogwang have their work cut out.
