    The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) , a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security has commended a Ugandan school , St Kizito High School Namugongo  for  championing the learning environment which emphasizes the development of the “whole person,” focusing on intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social growth .

    During the 6th edition of the Green Festival themed ‘ Smart Farming for Food Security’ held on October Saturday 11th 2025 at St Kizito High School Namugongo , FAO officials said the school’s  approach shapes students as unique individuals who learn best through experiences that are meaningful and engaging, fostering curiosity, creativity, and a sense of community to prepare them for lifelong learning and well-being.

    Speaking on behalf of the the delegation from FAO which aims to ensure food security for all by guaranteeing access to sufficient, high-quality food for active and healthy lives, Mr Alessandro Donati hailed the school for promoting the UN’s objectives through projects that will eradicate hunger and malnutrition, reduce poverty, enhance agricultural productivity, increase resilience to crises, and promote the sustainable management of natural resources.

    Alessandro accompanied by a delegation from the headquarters in Rome, Italy, said St. Kizito High School Namugongo , was chosen by FAO which operates in over 130 countries with regional and field offices and it comprises 195 members, including 194 countries and the European Union.

    The Head teacher, Mr Ezekiel Kazibwe accompanied by teachers and administrators from other schools said this expo helps to showcase the skills and products the students are doing in school.

    ‘’This program is aimed at teaching skills to the children, to make them functional in society. The previous education curriculum was so theoretical  but with this new curriculum which found us already ready and running these projects , we have been able to teach students with skills that will not only help them but the entire world’’, said Kazibwe.

    He added that the school has emphasized on several projects including smart agriculture , recycling and transforming of waste into energy , where skills are given to all students.

    Some of the students who spoke to journalists during the exhibition including Ainomugisha Patience, a S2 student , Nelson Igirikwishaka and Ssemakula Josua among others commended the school for creating an environment which  is fostering essential 21st-century skills like critical thinking, creativity, and digital literacy, preparing students for a rapidly changing world and a competitive job market.

    Among the projects showcased by students include; Indoor, Background & vertical gardening , Multi-media education & information sharing, Non-organic waste recycling , Solar , biomass &  hydro power production & usage application , post-harvest food preservation& processing ,livestock feeds production, ICT- based farming , irrigation & egg quality inspection, bio-waste & food-waste recycling , cosmetology&  herbal medicine, smart farm inputs; bio-fertilizers& bio pesticides production , livestock & crop integration among others,

    Over the last 25 years since its establishment in 1998, St. Kizito High School Namugongo has maintained its position as a centre of academic excellence in Wakiso district, Kira Municipality, Central Uganda and the entire nation.

    While striving to make secondary education accessible to the community and the nation, St. Kizito High School Namugongo consistently works to provide a truly holistic well rounded equality education enabling the students to unleash their full potential and fit in the highly competitive education environment.

    The school is also open to learners of other religious convictions since they provide a non-discriminatory approach.

    It should be remembered that at a ceremony early this year held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and attended by 11 heads of state , ministers, and business leaders, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed recognized the 2025 winners of the Zayed Sustainability Prize , with Uganda proudly being represented by St Kizito High School Namugongo after it emerged among the three finalists in sub-Saharan Africa.

    The school was one of the three finalists in the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa in the Global High Schools Category from the 6000 schools that contested for the award worldwide.

    With a passion for knowledge, a commitment to excellence, and a spirit of innovation, St.Kizito empowers students to reach their full potential through their diverse culture and Practical Skills Development which enables them to easily adapt to the new curriculum.

    Over the years, they’ve evolved and grown, always dedicated to fostering academic excellence, character development, and a commitment to making a positive impact on our community.

     

    The school has  several Projects including: Making Reusable Sanitary Pads; Bakery and Cookery; Production of Toothpaste and Mouthwash; Composting and Fertilizer Production; Black Soldier Fly Rearing; Post-Harvest Preservation; Quality-Check of Eggs; Poultry Farming and Rabbit Rearing; Liquid Soap and Bar Soap Making; Candle Making with Mosquito Repellant Candles; Art and Craft; Fashion and Design.
