Uganda Airlines clarified on reports regarding an aircraft-on-ground issue involving one of the Airbus A330-800neo aircraft, registration 5X-NIL Mt Elgon.
According to a statement from Uganda airlines, on September 26, while at London Gatwick station, the aircraft experienced a technical problem that led to extended disruption of services.
‘’In line with our commitment to safety as our highest priority, and out of an abundance of caution, we made the decision to cancel flight UR 111 from London to Entebbe’’, reads the statement.
The statement further clarifies that due to ongoing global supply chain challenges, sourcing and delivering the required spare parts to London took longer than expected.
‘’We are pleased to confirm that the technical issue has now been fully resolved, and the aircraft is back in service’’, the statement reads.
Reports indicated that Uganda Airlines’ Airbus A330-800neo, with registration 5X-NIL, was grounded due to technical issues, causing widespread disruptions to its long-haul network including routes to London, Dubai, and Mumbai. This grounding allegedly highlighted the national carrier’s dependency on its limited fleet of two Airbus A330-800neo jets.
It was alleged that Uganda Airlines’ long-haul network was hit by widespread delays and cancellations. The disruptions, reportedly affected London, Dubai, and Mumbai routes.
