Stanbic Bank Uganda has officially launched the 2025 Stanbic Entebbe Open Golf Tournament, promising a week of competitive sport, elite networking, and vibrant celebration. Scheduled for October 5th-9th, the tournament marks its third consecutive edition under Stanbic’s title sponsorship since the COVID-19 pandemic, reinforcing the bank’s growing investment in sport and community.

Held at the historic Entebbe Club, the event is a key fixture on Uganda’s sporting calendar and continues to gain prestige across East Africa.

Rita Apell, Chief Information Officer at Stanbic Bank, said this year’s edition of the tournament promises to be the most memorable yet, as it will, for the first time, coincide with the East African Business Summit cocktail, creating a unique synergy between sport and business, and attracting regional business leaders to take part in the tournament.

“This year’s tournament will unfold over four action-packed days, culminating in a joint closing dinner at the iconic 19th Hole on Uganda’s Independence Day, October 9th. The fusion of golf and business networking is a deliberate move to elevate the tournament’s value for players, sponsors, and guests alike,” Apell noted.

She further explained that the competition will feature three main categories: the Professional Open, the Gross Players Category, and the Subsidiary Category.

“Unlike previous years, the prize money has been significantly increased from UGX 40 million to UGX 50 million for professionals, and from UGX 5 million to UGX 15 million for amateurs,” Apell added, emphasizing that this move aligns with the bank’s core purpose: ‘Uganda is our home; we drive her growth.’

Jacob Byamukama, Chairperson of Entebbe Golf Club, hailed Stanbic Bank for its continued partnership and unwavering commitment to the game of golf, despite the presence of several competing priorities.

“As Entebbe Golf Club, we are honoured to once again host the Stanbic Entebbe Open a tournament that continues to grow in both prestige and regional impact. This event is not only a major highlight on our club calendar, but also a platform that showcases the very best of Ugandan golf while promoting regional unity and sporting excellence,” he said, noting that more than 300 players are expected to participate.

He added, “This year’s tournament marks a new chapter, with increased prizes, wider participation and the exciting integration of the East African Business Summit. We’re proud to offer players and guests a world-class golfing experience right here in the heart of Uganda.”

Isaac Ajiji, the bank’s Marketing and Brand Manager, noted that they have extended attractive offers through the FlexiPay digital payment solution, providing exclusive perks to users throughout the tournament.

“I call upon all players and guests to use their FlexiPay or Stanbic cards, which will unlock discounts on green fees and enable more personalized purchases, such as drinks and beverages. Seamless, cashless transactions will run throughout the event. This is part of how we make your banking experience more rewarding and truly digital for our customers, as we enable memorable experiences,” Ajiji said.
