The Fort Portal Branch is set to serve communities across the Tooro Sub-region — including Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Bunyangabu, and Kasese — with a full suite of financial services tailored to individuals, entrepreneurs, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Through this new branch, dfcu Bank will expand access to credit, strengthen agribusiness, and empower the region’s tourism and trade sectors.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kate Kiiza, Executive Director of dfcu Bank, emphasized the bank’s growth strategy and long-term commitment to Uganda’s development:

“For more than 60 years, dfcu Bank has been a partner in transforming lives and businesses across Uganda. The launch of our Fort Portal branch is a bold step in accelerating growth in this region, which is rich with opportunities in agriculture, tourism, oil, and trade. Beyond financial solutions, we are creating employment opportunities, supporting SMEs, and enabling families and communities to thrive. This investment reaffirms our belief in the immense potential of Western Uganda.”

Guest of Honour, Richard Rwabuhinga, LC V Chairman for Fort Portal Tourism City, welcomed the investment, stating:

“This branch positions Fort Portal as a rising economic hub. With services ranging from savings and SME loans to agent banking, dfcu Bank is empowering traders, farmers, tourism operators, and families. This will accelerate the development of thriving businesses, enhance livelihoods, and strengthen our region’s role in Uganda’s growth story.”

Annette Kiconco, Chief Retail Banking Officer at dfcu Bank, highlighted the bank’s sector-focused approach:

“Our strategy centers on agriculture, trade, and business. Fort Portal is an agricultural powerhouse, and dfcu Bank is committed to supporting farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness ventures with specialized solutions. We believe in channel optimization — blending physical branches, digital platforms, and our extensive agent banking network to ensure no one is left behind.”

With the Fort Portal branch, dfcu Bank is introducing advanced digital channels to the region — including internet banking, mobile banking, and an expanding network of over 20,000 agent banking outlets nationwide. Beyond financial services, dfcu Bank will provide entrepreneurial training, financial literacy programs, and mentorship opportunities, with special focus on empowering women through its Women in Business Program.

    A Legacy of Impact

Founded in 1964 as the Development Finance Company of Uganda, dfcu Bank has evolved into one of the country’s most prominent financial institutions. Over the decades, it has played a pivotal role in Uganda’s economic transformation by supporting large-scale development projects, nurturing entrepreneurship, and providing innovative financial solutions tailored to both corporate clients and individuals. Today, dfcu Bank operates with a purpose-driven mission: to transform lives and businesses in Uganda. Its heritage of resilience, innovation, and customer focus continues to define its leadership in the financial sector.

Driving Economic Growth in Western Uganda

SMEs contribute more than 80% of private-sector employment in Uganda and are central to the Fort Portal economy, dominating agribusiness, hospitality, and retail trade. dfcu Bank’s expansion ensures these businesses gain access to affordable credit, modern financial tools, and advisory support to scale sustainably and competitively.

With its 55th branch, dfcu Bank reinforces its position as a catalyst for inclusive growth, job creation, and innovation in Uganda.
