The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, has officially handed over 16 brand-new motor vehicles to officers of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The vehicles, allocated to senior staff and Resident State Attorneys serving within and around Kampala, are intended to significantly enhance the institution’s capacity in delivering timely and effective criminal justice. The handover ceremony was held at the Office of the Resident State Attorney, Nakawa. In her address, the DPP expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Uganda for prioritizing justice and supporting the ODPP to strengthen its operational capacity.
She commended her staff for their relentless dedication, handling complex cases, managing heavy caseloads, and often working long hours under challenging circumstances. “These vehicles are not a luxury; they are tools of service,” Lady Justice Abodo emphasised. “They will enable prosecutors to move swiftly between courts, police stations, and offices; safely transport files and sensitive documents; strengthen supervision and coordination across Kampala; and respond promptly to urgent prosecutorial needs.
Ultimately, they will improve efficiency and expand access to justice for all Ugandans.” Also speaking at the event, Ms. Agnes Kainza Nzogi, Permanent Secretary, reminded staff to strictly adhere to the Public Service Standing Orders and ensure responsible management and maintenance of the vehicles. Mr. Odumbi James Owere, Deputy DPP, reflecting on the ODPP’s remarkable journey, recalled its humble beginnings, operating with a long-chassis vehicle and two Peugeots donated by the British Government.
He hailed the transformation that has seen the ODPP fleet grow to more than 120 well-maintained vehicles. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, he thanked the DPP and Top Management for their commitment to improving the working conditions of prosecutors, stressing that the new vehicles should serve as an incentive to deliver justice with greater diligence and impact.
The event symbolised not only the acquisition of vehicles but also a renewed commitment to efficiency, professionalism, and the advancement of justice in Uganda.
