    Equity Bank Uganda, through its various initiatives, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing quality education in Uganda.

    Speaking on September 12 2025 during the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU) , a national body that brings together headteachers of both government-aided and private schools, at Masaka SS, Mr. Christopher Lutwama, the Relationship Manager-Education at Equity Bank Uganda, spoke about the Bank Uganda’s commitment to education.

    “Equity cares about education. We know running a school isn’t easy, so we’ve designed products like Equi Green Loans, Development Loans, Asset & Bridge Financing, and Equi Shield to simplify operations.’’, Lutwama told headteachers.

    He added that; ‘’  Parents are supported too with School Fees Loan and Salary Advance, helping the whole school community thrive.’’

    Equity bank has over the years eased Financial Burdens for Families by offering  loans with flexible repayment options to help parents pay tuition, uniforms, and other essential back-to-school costs.

    Other services that have boosted the education sector include;

    Fintech Partnerships: Collaborated  with fintech firms  enabling the provision of School Fee Loans to families facing immediate cash flow challenges

    Supporting Educational Institutions : The bank has  provided loans to schools for immediate needs like paying teacher salaries, purchasing materials, and for larger projects such as classroom expansions and infrastructure development.

    Financial Literacy and Inclusion: Equity bank , through various initiatives work to improve financial understanding among the public, which is crucial for making informed decisions and supporting economic growth.

    Digital Transformation: Equity Bank partnerships with fintechs promote the digitalization of the education sector, which can lead to more efficient management of school operations and fee payments, reducing reliance on traditional paper systems.

    Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Equity bank Uganda uses CSR platforms to focus on enabling skills development and improving community education, directly contributing to the well-being of the communities .

    Furthermore , Equity Bank’s education initiatives focus on leadership and financial literacy, particularly through the Equity Leaders Program (ELP), which provides paid internships, mentorship, and coaching to gifted young scholars in Uganda and the East African region.

    The program supports access to higher education, develops leadership and innovation skills, and fosters community engagement. The bank also offers financial education for youth and operates a Junior Account for young savers.

    Equity Bank affirms that contributions from the private sector play a pivotal role in accelerating the project’s development and ensuring its long-term sustainability, thus opening wider horizons for eligible students to access quality education within a supportive and inclusive environment.
