The Human Resource Managers Association of Uganda (HRMAU), the umbrella body of HR professionals in the country,  hosted the 3rd edition of the Annual HR Sports Gala on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Sports Grounds.

Held under the theme “Healthy People, Productive Workplaces,” the gala provided an unforgettable day of sports, entertainment, inspiration, and community impact bringing together HR professionals from across Uganda to engage in friendly competition, networking, and team building.

Ronald Bbosa, the president of HRMA hailed HR professionals for embracing the gala to promote issues of health and safety at the places of work and to uplift the profile of their places of work in terms of health and safety.

‘’The theme for this year was specifically chosen to compliment the efforts of the government in making sure that we reduce the issue of non communicable diseases that are affecting our population. As HR professionals we are at the center of leading excellence in terms of having productivity at work , but we can’t have productive people when they are not healthy. Events like the sports gala come up to bring out that in our membership’’, Bbosa urged all members and CEOs to prioritise health at places of work.

Sarah Mutegombwa from Blood donor Recruitment Manager Uganda Red Cross Society underscored the importance of blood urging communities to embrace blood donation drives.

The day featured team competitions in various games, including football, netball, athletics, volleyball, Zumba, and other fun team building activities. In addition to the games, the event  hosted an all-day blood donation drive led by HRMAU members and open to the general public.

The sponsors included NBS Sport, BrighterMonday, ICEA LION, Stanbic Bank, Rock Boom, SGA, C-Care, Red Cross, Antfeet, Oxide Chloride, Marie Stopes, UNIFI Microfinance, Moving Ads, and the Microfinance Support Centre.

The event wasn’t just about scoring goals or crossing finish lines, but about encouraging fitness, fostering teamwork, and strengthening professional ties within the HR community.

Over 400 HR practitioners from across the country attended.
