| Interview with Mathias Jumba, Head of Integrated Channels, dfcu Bank |
As banks look for new ways to serve customers beyond traditional branches, dfcu Bank has launched the Wenja Amaja campaign to expand access to banking through agents, merchants, branches and digital channels. In this interview, Mathias Jumba, Head of Integrated Channels at dfcu, explains what the campaign means for customers, businesses and communities across Uganda.
Q1: What is the thinking behind the Wenja Amaja campaign?
Mathias Jumba: Wenja Amaja is about making banking more accessible and convenient. We want customers to access services where they live, work and do business, while creating opportunities for agents, merchants and partners to grow with dfcu.
Q2: What makes this campaign different?
Mathias Jumba: It goes beyond awareness. The campaign is designed to grow our customer base, strengthen our agent and merchant network, mobilise deposits and bring more people into formal banking through channels they can use every day.
Q3: Why is agent banking central to this strategy?
Mathias Jumba: Agent banking extends our reach beyond branches. It allows customers to transact within their communities, reducing travel time and making everyday banking easier, especially where a branch may not be nearby.
Q4: What services can customers access through dfcu agents?
Mathias Jumba: Customers can make deposits and pay for selected services, including NWSC, NSSF, UEDCL Light, DStv, GOtv and Jubilee Insurance, among other supported services.
Q5: Who can participate in Wenja Amaja?
Mathias Jumba: The campaign is open to existing and new dfcu customers, current and prospective agents, merchants, Super-Dealers and eligible staff supporting customer, agent and merchant growth.
Q6: What opportunity does the campaign create for businesses?
Mathias Jumba: Businesses can open or maintain a dfcu business account, use dfcu payment solutions and improve the way they receive and settle payments. It is an opportunity to be part of a wider financial ecosystem that supports growth.
Q7: Why should someone consider becoming a dfcu agent?
Mathias Jumba: Becoming a dfcu agent can create an additional income stream, increase customer traffic and enable a business to offer banking services within its community, while working with a regulated financial institution.
Q8: How does dfcu ensure trust across these channels?
Mathias Jumba: Trust is central to banking. dfcu Bank is regulated by the Bank of Uganda, customer deposits are protected by the Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda up to UGX 10 million, and all rewards and onboarding are subject to verification and compliance checks.
Q9: What would success look like when the campaign ends?
Mathias Jumba: Success means more Ugandans accessing banking conveniently, more businesses using our payment solutions, and a stronger agent and merchant network across the country.
Q10: What is your message to Ugandans?
Mathias Jumba: Whether you want to open an account, grow your business, become a dfcu agent or access more convenient banking, Wenja Amaja gives you an opportunity to grow with us. Visit the nearest dfcu branch, speak to a dfcu agent, or call 0800 222000 or 0800 777000.
