Glovo, a leading technological platform connecting customers, businesses, and riders, offering multicategory on-demand services from local restaurants, grocers and supermarkets, announced a significant milestone in its partnership with community-based organization Haba Na Haba. By leveraging Glovo’s technology and extensive courier network, the partnership has successfully rescued and distributed 2,712,061 meals to food-insecure communities since its inception in March 2024.
At the heart of the partnership is Haba Na Haba’s innovative food rescue model from local markets, which has significantly scaled its impact in the fight against food insecurity and waste. This rescued food is then swiftly distributed to beneficiaries on the same day, ensuring that nutritious meals reach those who need them most while drastically reducing food waste.
“Our technology was built to connect people with possibilities, and our partnership with Haba Na Haba is one of the most powerful examples of this mission in action,” said Ivy Maingi General Manager, Glovo Uganda. “Surpassing 2.7 million meals is not just a number; it represents our commitment to the communities we operate in and showcases how tech can be a powerful force for social good. We are incredibly proud to support Haba Na Haba’s vital work and, on World Food Day, we reaffirm our dedication to building a more sustainable and equitable future.”
The partnership has been instrumental in the rapid growth of Haba Na Haba’s operations, enabling the organization to expand its delivery network from an initial 9 routes to 27 routes currently, with continued growth. This expansion has allowed the initiative to reach thousands more beneficiaries across the region.
“This achievement is a testament to the power of collaboration. The support from Glovo has been a game-changer, allowing us to more than triple our reach and ensure that good food nourishes people instead of ending up in landfills,” said Jessica Bagenda, Co-Founder at Haba Na Haba. “Every meal represents a family supported and a step towards a more sustainable future. However, the need is still great. With more volunteers, we can rescue and distribute even more food to our communities. We are calling on compassionate individuals to join us in this mission.”
The program’s rapid growth has also highlighted the immense potential to do more. Haba Na Haba has confirmed that the volume of food donations available from local markets exceeds what its current volunteer capacity can manage, and is making a call for more community involvement.
